Tumbling

I've started to tumbl(e) over at missbutton.tumblr.com.  I don't really know what I'm doing yet, but I do know that at the moment I seem to have the inclination to blog when I do not have the time,  And when I do have the time? No inclination...  The only blog I've done a half reasonable job of keeping up with is our family blog (where the rules are take a photo of yourself or your surroundings each evening, and post it - so easy!).

The beauty of tumblr is that I am no longer planning to separate wedding-blogging and regular-ol'-me-blogging.  With less than 150 days to go, the two are going to merge, and I know that there is no WAY I will be keeping up both.

I might be back to the blogs every so often for the bigger stuff, and I will DEFINITELY still be reading.

And if you are a tumblr too, follow me (or whatever it is you do on that thing...)

Progress... Finally!

This weekend, we FINALLY achieved something wedding-related.

A rough mock up of our invitations.

A VERY rough mock up (unmeasured, hacked with scissors, sewn on all wonky), but an idea nonetheless.
The finished product will be a little different:
- there will be words on the vellum portion. Kindly designed by one of mr button's good school friends.
- each one will have different paper (well, one of about 6 designs)
- each one will have a different button
- the seams will be evenly spaced
- the front covers will have "our quote" stamped on the front with our very own custom stamp.
Basically, they will be about 100 times hotter! And we are SO excited about them.
Now we just have to buy some supplies, get the wording portion designed, wait for our stamp. And then spend hundreds of hours putting them together (not literally, but not as far off as one might hope...)

Wedding Wednesday Fail...

Wedding Wednesdays have been an epic fail so far.

We have been out, busy, away, and all sorts of other excuses. None of them good. (But at the same time, it's not hugely important.)

We still need to design our invites and sort out our part of the catering, but other than that, we don't have any major concerns at the moment!

(Then again, you might say that those are pretty major ones...)

This Wednesday, I was supposed to start a local sewing class. But turns out that (even though I PAID at the store) it was all filled up, and I can't go.

So we're committing to get our Manila Folder out and have a play with some of our invitation ideas. And since I've put it on the internet, hopefully we'll actually do it!

Lock it in...

As of today, we officially have:

1. A wedding venue
2. A wedding caterer
3. A wedding photographer
(the last one being the only one that is actually remotely new)

So now we've ticked off the big three. Beyond these three, we don't really plan to have any vendors. We'd like to do the rest ourselves (with some help from etsy and our very generous friends and family). And it's a big task, but one that I'm looking forward to.

Unfortunately, 3 months away from wedding thoughts has gotten me out of the groove. I'm still happy with our vibe, but I'm totally overwhelmed when I think of what I need to do! So, from next week, we are going to have 'Wedding Wednesdays' in our house. This will be our time (along with some time on weekends, I hope) that we discuss wedding stuff, and get onto actually doing some wedding crafts. I'm a little nervous (it's only 6 months away now, and at the rate we're moving, we'd need more like 6 years), but I'm also very excited. I love crafting, and hosting, and planning. And I can't wait to do it in such a big way!!

We're home.

We're home.
We're tired.
Our house is covered in paw prints, and smells vaguely of cat pee that we cannot locate.
We have ~5000 photos to sort through.
We get to cook again. (Unfortunately we have to clean again).
We are looking at getting a new kitty.
We are planning to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the weekend.
We have new DVDs to watch, crafts to do, and a wedding to plan.
We are back at work.

Life is good, and I promise there will be photos and stories at some stage.

Ridiculous Wedding Thing #2

After the first post in the series, my fabulous big sister reminded me about something we had read when planning her wedding, which is a perfect example of ridiculous wedding worries:

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to save money on my wedding. I am going to get married in June and I want to have a beautiful wedding, but everything is so expensive. The bridesmaid dresses I want are $300.00 a piece and I have 4 bridesmaids and I can not afford $300.00 per dress. I tried some fabric places and the fabric would cost me as much as buying a new dress. Also, I would like to know if anyone could tell me how to save money on my wedding cake. My aunt will make my cake for free if I can buy the supplies. One piece to the cake will cost $150.00. That piece is a water fountain to be placed in the center of the cake. Once again I can not afford something that expensive. Could anyone please help me save some money on my wedding.
-Stacey

I don't know about you, but when I first read it, I wondered how you would even incorporate a fountain into your cake. If you're the same, here's how you do it. I strongly recommend following the link, cos there are some beauties.
And I really don't have much more to say on this one, except... Wow...

Embarrassing Confession...

This embarrassing confession is not in the league of TMI Thursday. Not even close. But it is something I am a little embarrassed to share. So here goes...

The whole time I've had this blog, I thought that no-one was reading, and no-one was commenting. Which is probably part of the reason that I have been a little slack.

Then today, I actually visited, and noticed that there are comments. Not heaps of comments, but there are comments.

And then I realised that I had not entered my email address for this blog, so while there were comments, there were no comment notifications.

Stupid much?

So anyway, to all those people who have left comments in the past few months - thanks! It's really nice to see what people have to say, even a few months down the track.

And hopefully this realisation will motivate me to be a better blogger in future, knowing that people are actually reading (if they haven't been put off by my lack of responses...)

So here's to a new start for 'the buttons' bargain wedding bash'!

*******************************************
And a brief update, to let you all know what's been going on with The Buttons...

In wedding news:
  • We have booked in the caterers (Stu's Smokin' BBQ )
  • I am still working on the dress. I'm working with Audrey and Grace to create a v-neck dress, with a full, pleated skirt, a big sash, and a whole lot of her simple elegance.

In other news:

  • Mr Button arrives in Europe TOMORROW. As in, he's already on the plane. As in, I get to see him in just over ONE DAY. And this is pretty much the best news ever, and is totally above wedding planning on the priority list at the moment.
